In 2007, CNN Money ranked Chaska, Minnesota as the 8th best place to live in the entire United States. And with its beautiful location, exciting venues and small-town feel, we at Buy Sell Lease Real Estate find it no surprise at all to see the city of Chaska ranked so highly: its beautiful lakefront and riverside real estate, its numerous parks, golf courses, and other amenities, and its private but friendly atmosphere make Chaska one of the best places to live in the entire world.
Located in the beautiful Minnesota River valley, Chaska is a thriving and rapidly expanding city with a small-town feel. Situated among the other hamlets of the west suburbs of the Twin Cities, Chaska’s downtown area lies right on the Minnesota river.
In addition to its riverfront real estate, Chaska is home to a number of local lakes—in fact, 5% of the city’s 14.3 square miles is water, making lakehomes, lakehouses and other lakefront property widely available for anyone looking to buy a home, house, townhome, townhouse, or cabin in the southwest metro area. Some of the nearby lakes include Lake Grace, McKnight Lake, Hazeltine Lake, and Lake Bavaria, as well as a number of smaller, more private lake areas.
In addition to its rivers and abundant lakes and lakeshore, Chaska is home to a number of parks, including Pioneer Park, Cortina Park, and Friendship park, as well as a number of golf courses, including the Hazeltine National Golf Club and the Chaska Town Course. And in addition to these public amenities, Chaska has a lot of attractions to offer. There are 14 movie theaters within 15 miles of the city, 1,181 restaurants within 15 miles, 84 bars, and 155 golf courses within 30 miles.
But don’t let all those attractions and amenities fool you: Chaska, while busy, bustling, and exciting, the city is without a doubt a private and welcoming small town. As of 2005, the city was home to almost 23,000 people and 8,194 households and homes, making it a wonderful location for anyone looking to buy or purchase a home with a small-town feel. But despite that small-town feel, Chaska is a rapidly developing business center. Chaska is home to a number of manufacturing and industrial businesses, including TPI Specialties, Update Ltd., Beckman Coulter, Hartman Homes, and Wigen Water technologies.
The city is deeply steeped in tradition and history as well. The city was first established as a village in 1871 and has been an official city since 1891. The name “Chaska” was given as a derivation from a Dakota word often given as a name to the first-born child. As early as the 1850’s, the city was a developing business center: the city’s real estate was rich with clay, and the city quickly became a central brick manufacturer. Into the 20th century, the mineral-rich soil of the city made it a center of agriculture.
Today, the city is a center of popularity, due to its lakeside property, its quaint location right on the Minnesota river, and its community. Partially as a result of that popularity, Chaska sees a tremendous amount of growth each year: each year residential construction adds 300 to 400 new homes as consumer demand rises for such an idyllic setting amongst Minnesota’s best lakes and rivers. But despite that bustling development, the city’s regulations on development and zoning safeguard the town’s historic small sense of community. With that continued growth in mind, rest assured that Chaska’s idyllic lakes, parks, and rivers hold a spot for your new home today.
