Hopkins Homes for Sale

Hopkins is a small town just three miles from Minneapolis, with about 17,000 residents and 8,000 households in a little more than four square miles of land. While the town might lose some attention, being surrounded by three major suburbs: Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, and Edina, Hopkins has its own attractions that make it a wonderful place to buy a home.

Hopkins’ real estate may not compare to Edina’s posh rolling hills, but it certainly is affordable. Whether you are buying a home for the first time, buying a townhome, buying a townhouse, and are still wondering how to buy a home for the first time, or whether you are just looking to buy a home conveniently close to the excitement and economy of Minneapolis, Hopkins is a wonderful city to call home.

Despite being comparatively small, Hopkins has enough parks to rival some of the Twin Cities’ larger suburbs. The City of Hopkins Public Works Department maintains 18 total parks and nature areas. Those parks include three tennis courts, two volleyball courts, two football/soccer fields, one baseball field, nine softball fields, and six basketball fields, all publicly maintained and free to use. The city also maintains ten playgrounds, a skate park, a horseshoe court, a public beach, an archery range, two canoe launches, and, in the winter, a large number of ice skating rinks, hockey rinks, and sledding hills.

But Hopkins homes have more to offer than just parks. The landscape, while almost fully developed, is still wooded, and features a number of ponds and creeks. Hopkins is also connected to four major trail systems that run along the Twin Cities’ lakeshore properties and through its wooded areas, making recreational walking, jogging, and biking easily accessibly from any Hopkins home.

And of course, because Hopkins is just three miles from Minneapolis, all the excitement and attractions of the city are just a short drive—or bike ride—from home. Hopkins homeowners can easily enjoy Minneapolis restaurants, bars, clubs, theatres, sports events, and musical events without the longer commute of some of the more removed suburbs, and yet Hopkins sacrifices little in terms of safety and privacy. Hopkins homeowners can also take advantage of the short commute to Minneapolis jobs, making Hopkins a great place to buy a home and find a job, or for corporate relocations, or simply for reducing time on the road and in traffic and increasing time at home.

But that’s not to say you have to leave Hopkins to find excitement. Hopkins has its own bustling downtown area, with bars, restaurants, theatres, and dozens of other venues. So while you can enjoy Minneapolis on weekends, local Hopkins places will make you want to stay in the city and take advantage of everything that is so close to home.

Hopkins also offers a rich history. First established as West Minneapolis around 1852, Hopkins began to grow in 1887 when it became home to Minneapolis Moline, a farming equipment business. Soon, it broke off from Minneapolis and became its own village, and in 1928, was renamed to its present-day name. Since then, it has been rapidly developing and growing, and today, almost 20,000 people call Hopkins home, and over 98% of the city’s land is fully developed. Thus, Hopkins’ past allows it to look back on its rich history and look forward to its continued development.

Hopkins has so much to offer, from its parks and nature centers, to its activities, to its convenient proximity to Minneapolis. Buying a home in Hopkins ensures homeowners a continued appreciation and a growth of appreciation for all the small town does for its residents.
