Spring Park Homes for Sale

Spring Park is a small, residential town located entirely on Lake Minnetonka. The town is notable for its small-town charm and especially its lakeside real estate and miles of shoreline.

Spring Park’s most distinguishing feature is its shoreline. The town is nestled along the shores of Lake Minnetonka, surrounded by the lake’s West Arm Bay, Spring Park Bay, and Black Lake. While the city is rather small, with only less than half a square mile of total area, the city features over four miles of shoreline. Thus the city gives almost unparalleled access to lakeshore real estate and lakeside property. A number of a lake homes and cabins are available to buy on Spring Park’s beautiful lakeshore. In addition to its access to Lake Minnetonka’s West Arm, Black Lake, and Spring Park Bay, the nearby towns of Mound and Minnetonka Beach afford access to Crystal Bay, Lafayette Bay, Carman Bay, Phelps Bay, Cooks Bay, Harrison Bay, Jennings Bay, as well as Langdon Lake and Dutch Lake—and all theses bays and lakes are within walking distance from any Spring Park house or home!

The abundance of lakes and lakeshore property enables the unique lakeside recreational lifestyle of Lake Minnetonka residents. Swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, and more are available every summer, and skating and ice fishing are available every winter as Lake Minnetonka freezes over.

The city also has a rich history. Originally a diverse natural lake area, prehistoric Indians used to visit Spring Park and the Lake Minnetonka area, leaving ancient burial mounds nearby in the Lake Minnetonka area. The Dakota Indians that frequented Spring Park and the surrounding area continued this tradition, leaving evidence of their habitation of the area. The first abstract of property ownership dates back to 1850, and additional settlers found the area over the next few areas. The area developed rapidly in the 1880’s as James J. Hill’s Great Northern Railroad was extended through Spring Park in 1882. Hundreds of tourists began visiting what was rapidly becoming a popular resort area, especially with the nearby Lafayette Hotel in Minnetonka Beach. Soon Lake Minnetonka was bustling with steamers and trains as the resort area grew in popularity. The city was named “Spring Park” due to its reputation as a spa, and tourism grew throughout the next couple decades. Around 1900, the city received telephone lines, and by 1920, it had its own school district. The city was officially incorporated in 1951. Today, the city has grown to almost 300 households and is home to approximately 60 businesses.

Spring Park’s location, conveniently close to Mound and to all the other lakeside cities of Lake Minnetonka, enable the city’s lakeshore lifestyle without the sacrifice of city conveniences. Nearby shopping and restaurants can be found both within the city and less than a mile away in nearby Mound, Wayzata, or Excelsior.

Spring Park may be a small town, but it is its small town charm and lakeside living that makes it a special place to call home. Buying a home in Spring Park ensures a lifetime of lakeside living on some of the most beautiful bays and shores of Lake Minnetonka.
