White Bear Lake Homes for Sale

White Bear Lake

Writers from all across America have written about the beauty of White Bear Lake, from Mark Twain in his Life on the Mississippi to F. Scott Fitzgerald in his Winter Dreams. The town has grown from a beautiful lakeside resort in the early 19th century to an exciting suburb with a rich history in an extraordinary area, making White Bear Lake a wonderful town to call home.

What makes White Bear Lake so special – so special that America’s most famous writers have been drawn to write about it? For starters, the town has a rich history. In 1868, with the construction of the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad, White Bear Lake transformed from a small settlement to a bustling resort town. The town became home to dancing pavilions, bowling alleys, boating events, elegant ballrooms and more. Soon the beautiful northern area and clear lakes brought permanent residents and homeowners, as cottages and cabins turned into lifelong homes. Soon, the town transformed from a beautiful resort area to a wonderful residential area, featuring a gentle peacefulness along beautiful Minnesota lakes. Today, the town maintains its beautiful lakeside environment and adds to it a small town charm, exciting opportunities and suburban conveniences.

Perhaps the most distinctive quality of White Bear Lake is its namesake lake. The lake surrounds the entire east part of town, and two unique peninsulas stretch out onto the lake, granting an unbelievable amount of shoreline for those interested in buying a lakeside home or house. The lake is one of the largest in the Twin Cities area, being eclipsed only by Lake Minnetonka in the west. The lakes in the area afford White Bear Lake homeowners and residents opportunities for fishing, swimming and boating, as well as lakeside walks and picnics. And in addition to the White Bear Lake, there are a number of smaller lakes within the city limits: Goose Lake in the center of town and Birch Lake in the northwest. Residents thus enjoy a beautiful lakeside environment in addition to pleasant and exciting lakeside recreation.

Speaking of recreation, the town features a total of 23 public parks. Each park is distinct, featuring playground equipment and sporting fields for soccer, baseball and softball, basketball and more. White Bear Lake also features beaches for lakeside recreation. Other parks feature walking trails that wind through the city’s beautiful lakeside environment. The city also offers residents a sports center, a YMCA and youth athletics, making White Bear Lake a great place for families to call home.

But families looking to buy a home will love White Bear Lake for more than its beautiful location and great recreational outlets; the town is home to a great educational system.  White Bear Lake Homeowners have access to nine public elementary schools as well as two middle schools and two high schools. In addition to these, White Bear Lake is also home to two private schools: St. Mary of the Lake and St. Pius X Holy Family, both pre-kindergarten through 8th grade schools. Finally, White Bear Lake is home to a high school area learning center.

Thus residents of White Bear Lake enjoy the beauty of a resort area and the charm of a suburban small-town charm, together with great lakeside recreation and great schools. If you’re looking to buy a home in the Twin Cities, White Bear Lake’s historic beauty and lakeside lifestyle makes it a great place to buy a house.
